How often do you think about what Jesus did on the cross? And what that means for you and your life? Have you read the Old Testament? Did you ever think about all the things people had to do to receive forgiveness? The sacrifices! The rituals! The precise nature of each act!
Think about this scripture for a minute... or two... Deuteronomy 21:18-21, "Suppose a man has a stubborn and rebellious son who will not obey his father or mother, even though they have disciplined him. 19. In such case, the father and the mother must take the son to the elders as they hold court at the town gate. 20. The parents must say to the elders, 'This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious and refuses to obey. He is glutton and a drunkard.' 21. Then all the men of the town must stone him to death. In this was, you will purge this evil from among you, and all Israel will hear about it and be afraid."
Could you imagine!?!? I think about how teens act these days! I think about how I acted as a teen! Could you send your child to be stoned to death!?!? To keep your city safe!?!? This is one of the rituals that is no longer necessary because of what Jesus did on the cross!!
Chew on this for a bit:
Leviticus 20:9&10, "Anyone who dishonors father or mother must be put to death. Such a person is guilty of a capital offense. 10. If a man commits adultery with his neighbor's wife, both the man and the woman who have committed adultery must be put to death."
With the world we live in today- Our world population would be very low! I think about how my friends, and I treated our parents! We would have been goners! So many marriages end because of adultery!
Jesus died on that Cross so that we would no longer have to do these things to be cleansed! He was brutally beaten; He took the punishment for us! So that now we can go straight to Him and fess up when we mess up! This doesn't give us a free pass to mess up! God know our hearts! The art of repentance and forgiveness is genuine! And you genuinely have to want to be better. To become closer to Jesus. Let your love for Him grow leaps and bounds daily!
Thank Him for His sacrifice! His death and resurrection saved you from your death equaling hell.
