What is your deepest darkest secret? What are you ashamed of? What do you try to hide from the people that you love? Some people live secret lives! Some people live double lives! Some just hide parts of themselves...
Now imagine with me: That if everything you hid from your friends and family, was public knowledge. Whether it was tattooed on your forehead! Or maybe it was part of our greetings to one another! However, it happened, it would be known to anyone you had in contact with. How would that change your life?
Would you work harder to clean up that area in that part of your life? Would you work harder at sobriety? Would you work harder at keeping your house clean? Would you work harder at losing weight? Would you even be ashamed of your secret coming to light? Maybe you would never have even gotten yourself into that situation!?! Just knowing that you could not keep any secret, would that change things?
We are so wrapped up in what everyone else thinks of us! We chisel ourselves into what we think is desirable to other people. We tell ourselves that if we are skinnier, or prettier, or smarter that people would want to be around us and be our friend. Or maybe someone would want to go out on date!? We control our conversations, so that we can hide what we don't want revealed.
Funny thing is- that all of those opinions that we seek- DO NOT MATTER!!! It truly does not matter what you hide from me or what I hide from you! Our Creator and only judge can see it all!!! Every moment! Of every day! He knows! When you close your door behind you, and you pull out your secret- God is there! Watching you! Crying out for you!
John 14:15-18 says, "If you love me, obey my commandments. 16. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17. He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it isn't looking for Him and doesn't recognize Him. But you know Him because He lives with you now and later will be in you. 18. No I will not abandon you as orphans- I will come to you."
The Holy Spirit is with us always! He speaks to us, guides us, and protects us! And since the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are one- we are never alone!
Psalms 139:7-12 says, "I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! 8. If I go up to Heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. 9. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night- 12. but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you."
So, all your dirty laundry, and the skeletons you try to stash in your closet, are indeed of common knowledge to the one to whom it matters the most!! God the Father! Does this change your outlook? Does this change the things you try to hide from your loved ones?
The Holy Spirit wants to help you with these things! Are you ready to ask Him?
