Do you struggle with anger? When confronted with issues, whether they are big or small, do you fight the urge to lash out? Or do you not fight the urge at all, and go straight to lashing out? Who is on the receiving end? Is it all verbal? Physical? How are you hurting the one's that you love? Do you feel remorse afterward? Do you apologize? Swear that you will never do it again? Do you beg for forgiveness? Or are you the complete opposite, and make excuses for your actions? Claiming that they deserved it?
Have you ever tried to lay your anger at the feet of Jesus? Have you ever thought that you could be healed by the blood of Jesus? Did it ever occur to you that anger was something that could be healed? I think we tend to believe that emotions are just who we are! I am a living testimony that- that is not true!
(Side note- I am not saying to not go to doctors! Or to not take medication! God made doctors and medicine! He uses them as tools too!)
But anger is one of those things- that has a ripple effect. That ripple effect eventually will destroy the person on the receiving end of your anger. You don't get to see the after affects. The shame that your victim carries! They hide the bruises, they hide the tears, they hide the fact that they let anyone do that to them. You don't see the "glass shatter" in their worlds due to your words and actions.
Would it change you? If you saw and witnessed the damage you caused? If you were able to witness the aftermath of the waitress you screamed at!? The waitress that was already at her wits end before you showed up, that is trying to support her family on tips. That waitress that was already feeling worthless. And now has to deal with you. If you knew that your words were going to put her over the edge, and cause her to attempt suicide that night, would it change you?
Psalms 37:8 says, "Stop being angry! Turn from your rage! Do not lose your temper- it only leads to harm."
Proverbs 14: 29 says, "People with understanding control their anger, a hot temper shows great foolishness."
The bible speaks a lot to anger!
Ecclesiastes 7:9 says, "Control your temper, for anger labels you a fool."
However, it is not just fools- but the already broken hearted. The people who don't know the love, grace and peace of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 4:26&27 says, "And don't sin by letting anger control you. Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry, 27. for anger gives a foothold to the devil."
Ask God for forgiveness! Hand your anger over to Him!! When you feel anger start to boil up- PRAY!! Ask God for help!! Ask the Holy Spirit to intercede on your behalf! Bite your tongue and wait for the peace of the Holy Spirit to cover you!
The more you practice this, the more you are handing over to God!! Praise God for every victory! He is always with us! Waiting to help us!
Until next time:
Numbers 6:24-26
24. May the Lord bless you and protect you!
25. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you!
26. May the Lord show you His favor and give you His peace!
